• The magazine staff works very far in advance. It's best not to pitch a story on an event that is happening in the next week or even the next month. Think far ahead.

• Before pitching or writing a story, pick up a copy of our magazine and familiarize yourself with our style (both in writing and content) and what we are all about.

• Story pitches likely to get the most attention are ones with a unique angle or that cover a tired Hampton Roads topic in a new way.

• Query should outline your idea by explaining the principles, sources, relevance, etc. An outline in addition to the query is helpful.
