Kelly Freas Lives: A Portrait of An Artist As a Man
When Frank Kelly Freas died on January 2, the world lost a brilliant artist. He was an illustrator for Mad Magazine beginning in 1957 and became its principal cover artists until late 1962. Although he didn’t invent Mad’s mascot, Alfred E. Newman, Freas gave him his own personality and turned him into an icon.

The Face of Mourning
When Mike Minium of Newport News lost his battle with esophageal cancer nearly four years ago at the age of 46, he left behind his wife Patti and four children, ranging in age from 9 years to 20 months. Ode to Asparagus
Asparagus is the king of all spring vegetables. A bold statement that fans of baby peas and green onions may protest, but what other vegetable is celebrated by entire Italian and French villages, which salute its dual green and ivory countenance every spring with festivals dedicated to its tender, grassy flavor.
